We can’t tell our natural stone restoration story without starting from the beginning, which was quite by accident.

Years ago a friend of a friend developed health issues and needed help ASAP with his small business, so I welcomed the opportunity. I “temporarily” changed my life-path to do something different.

He came from a traditional European “stone culture” which had used natural stone in their surroundings since the time of the Romans. North America is a “wood culture” and has only been using natural stone in homes widely for the past 30 years or so. His many years of experience systematically taught me the basics of polishing, honing and repairing granite, marble and all kinds of gorgeous natural stone I hadn’t even heard of.

One day we met a distraught family; agitated and distressed after being out of country for several years. They came home to find their once dazzling stone tile floors and exquisite white granite counters were now marred and damaged by the consequences of the wrong long-term renters. Little did I know that it would lead me to truly understand the value of the far reaching effects we have on the people we meet.

Their body language told a story of wariness, vulnerability and apprehension in this betrayal of their personal space. The mom questioned whether she could feel a sense of sanctuary in her home ever again. The emotional toll was palpable, as the damage ran deeper than the surface of the stone, as it seeped into the trust and the sense of security she had held for her cherished space. This became a story about rebuilding the emotional connection and significance in the intrinsic beauty of her home.

We embraced their concerns, and with careful attention to detail and technique, we restored not just their stone but their trust in the process. It helped them feel warm, secure and emotionally connected to their surroundings and helped nurture a “love of place” once again.

I found the true value of our work was surprisingly transformative.

This journey reminded us that our stone restoration craft goes beyond the technicalities: it's about turning houses into homes and customers into partners in a shared story of resilience, renewal and peace of mind.
